Gum Treatment in Mumbai Stop Bleeding Gums and Save Your Teeth

Gum treatment (periodontal treatment) cleans infection from under the gums, stops bleeding and swelling, and protects the bone that holds your teeth. Gum disease is one of the most common reasons adults lose teeth, but in its early stage it is fully reversible. At Lokdant, we measure your gum health, explain the stage of disease, and treat it with the least invasive option that works.

Signs of gum disease

Gums that bleed while brushing, flossing or eating

    Red, swollen or tender gums

Bad breath or a bad taste that does not go away

Gums pulling back, making teeth look longer

    Pus between teeth and gums

Loose or shifting teeth, or gaps opening up

    Pain while chewing

Stages of gum disease

Gingivitis: plaque and tartar irritate the gums, which bleed and swell. No bone loss yet. Reversible with professional cleaning and good brushing.

Early periodontitis: infection goes below the gumline and forms pockets. Some bone loss starts.

Moderate to advanced periodontitis: deeper pockets, more bone loss, loose teeth. Needs deep cleaning and often gum surgery to save the teeth.

Risk is higher if you smoke or chew tobacco, have diabetes, are pregnant, or have crowded teeth that are hard to clean.

Gum treatments at Lokdant

Scaling and polishing: removes plaque and tartar above the gumline. See Teeth Cleaning.

Deep scaling and root planing: cleans tartar and bacteria from below the gumline and smooths the root so gums can reattach.

Deep curettage: removes infected tissue lining the gum pocket.

Local antibiotic (perio) fibres: placed in deep pockets to control infection.

Flap surgery: for deep pockets that cleaning cannot reach; the gum is gently lifted, the root cleaned, and the gum stitched back snugly.

Bone grafting: rebuilds lost bone around teeth in selected cases. See Bone Grafting.

Splinting: joins loose teeth to stronger neighbours for stability.

Gingivoplasty and crown lengthening: reshape gums for health or appearance. See Gum Lift.

What to expect

Deep cleaning is done under local anaesthesia, usually one or two sections of the mouth per visit. Gums may feel tender for 2–3 days. Bleeding typically reduces within 1–2 weeks. We then review your gums and plan maintenance cleanings every 3–6 months.

FAQs — Gum Treatment

The most common cause is gingivitis, early gum inflammation caused by plaque and tartar. Bleeding gums are a warning sign, not normal. A professional cleaning and better brushing usually stop it within 1–2 weeks.

Early gum disease (gingivitis) can be fully reversed. Periodontitis cannot be undone completely, but it can be controlled with deep cleaning, surgery if needed, and regular maintenance, so you keep your teeth.

No. Deep cleaning is done under local anaesthesia. You may feel some tenderness or sensitivity for a few days afterwards.

No. Tartar can hide gum and bone loss that has already happened. After cleaning, the tooth may feel slightly mobile at first, but as gums heal they tighten around the tooth.

When pockets are too deep (usually 5–6 mm or more) for cleaning to reach, or when there is bone loss that needs repair. Your dentist decides this after measuring the pockets and taking X-rays.

At Lokdant, deep scaling costs ₹1,300–1,800, deep curettage ₹1,500–2,000, and flap surgery ₹10,000 per quadrant. You get the full cost after your gum check-up.

Yes. Gum disease and diabetes affect each other: uncontrolled sugar worsens gum disease, and treating gum disease can help sugar control. Studies also link gum disease with heart disease.

Brush twice daily with a soft brush, clean between teeth daily with floss or an interdental brush, avoid tobacco, and get a professional cleaning every 3–6 months.
